Some time ago I told you about the slow open of New York City — Manhattan within the game Upland. There were a few bubbles that were opened in waves and the action was HOT. Some of those bubbles were sold out in a New York Minute. Which, if memory serves me right is about the time it takes from when you pull out your wallet to buy a hot dog to the time you get mugged. But I digress.
Not every piece of the pie was eaten. Some of it was dropped on the ground but most of it was held back for a special moment.
That moment is now.
On Monday November 2nd you will be able to purchase properties in the de facto metaverse of Upland. Upland uses blockchain technology to ensure that the properties you buy are unique and secure. No one can steal them without your consent. If Upland crashes and burns, your items are still there. Gaming doesn’t get much better than this. We’re talking about true ownership of digital assets with public records to prove it.
Now, you don’t actually have any rights to the real world properties but the cerebral tie to them is fun and can be profitable. In fact some digital properties in San Francisco have sold for a hefty profit due to their real world ties!
About a week ago an auction was held for some iconic San Francisco properties. The first was Pier 39.
PIER 39 is a 45-acre waterfront complex that is a gathering place for millions of San Francisco locals and visitors. In addition to its 14 full-service restaurants, 90+ shops and popular attractions, PIER 39 is home to a 5-acre waterfront park and a 300-berth marina. PIER 39 is known for its spectacular views of San Francisco Bay including the Golden Gate Bridge, Bay Bridge and Alcatraz, as well as the world famous California sea lions hauled out on K-Dock.
In an auction held on Discord the winner picked it up for… $6,207. I don’t know about you but as a cheapskate that is a heckuva lotta money to drop in a game for a single asset. On the plus side it does gain $125 per month so it’s not like throwing money into a hole. I mean, it will take 5 years to pay off but at least it’s DOING something. Besides there will more than likely be some sort of in game benefit attached to it soon.
The Ferry Building is one of the more famous and historic buildings along the Embarcadero.
What makes the Ferry Building San Francisco’s most famous landmark? First is its strategic location at the foot of Market Street— on the western edge of the continent, and at the center of the city’s financial, banking and transportation district. Second is its history as the primary portal of the city. Third, is the dramatic clock tower that has been the icon of the San Francisco waterfront for more than a 100 years.
This building may have been a little more desirable. I mean, I would hope so for a winning bid of US$8,321. It makes the owner $281 per month in earnings which is a much better 2.5 year payoff. And it’s now for sale for a cool US$45,000.
Wait, I thought we were talking about NYC? Yes! Yes we are. I bring these SF examples up as precedent because while NYC fully opens on Nov 2nd, Nov 3rd is election day in the US and will be a VERY special day in Upland. Three NYC properties are going to be auctioned off. The first is the Trump Tower at 721-5 5th Ave. The second is Obama’s home while he was at Columbia College, 142 West 109th Street. Where he lived is actually a 2 bedroom apartment but I guarantee you get the whole building. The third and final building up on the block is Federal Hall at 26 Wall St. This one should grab some serious attention as it is in the Financial District which means if that is a collection in NYC it will get a nice earnings multiplier like 1 Ferry Building above.
